Re: Henry 1860
Hopefully your friend's Henry will be a bit more robust than KCSO's '66. I've been thinking about getting either a Henry or a '66 with the gun-metal frame. I'd want the .44 WCF and would load it to around 10,000 psi; the thin brass of the .44 should seal nicely even at that low pressure. My understa...

Your gun would have been proofed to (and presumably designed for) CIP standards, about 16,000 psi max for operating pressures.

I've seen .38 Spl's go down range. They were low speed (even for a .38) handloads. The cast bullets are kind of a gray, smeared arc. Really nice is shooting flat base, copper jacketed .38 bullets; I recall the sun was behind and to the side some, and one got an effect similar to a tracer.

I assume you meant to type 13 ksi instead of 13 psi, or maybe 13%. Accuracy to 13 psi on a 63,000 psi reading would be incredible.Mike Rintoul wrote: However, primers can add from 3 - 13 psi pressure variance. Mag primers usually add closer to the 13 psi over the standard with the same load.

From what I've read, you can't safely gauge pressures with a chronograph. A while back, I assembled what data I'd seen into a web page. Basically, small changes in velocity can come with great increases in pressure.

I find FF easier to use, overall. I keep a copy of IE up to date just for the annoying sites programmed only for IE. Opera is faster, but I find it a bit clumsy in some ways. Both FF and Opera better conform to industry standards; IE is its own standard.

Ooooo, I may have to get one of those. I have a book covering the Burgess patent guns. I recall the author saying the Colt was not terribly reliable. Perhaps Uberti will make some needed changes. It's basically the 1881 Marlin scaled down to pistol length cartridges. Uberti is quite welcome to start...

QL has its limitations, and you've just hit on three of them. It's list of bullets is not exhaustive; you'll have to supply the bullet length. Also, it doesn't care what primer you use; it models only an "average" primer, and there are effects on pressure due to primers (which, then, are n...

stew71, the High-Wall is a rather strong action. On their factory site , Uberti offers the gun in .348 and .30-40; the former would really stress the action, with its big fat case. In both Europe and the US, the proof ratings for the .45-70 are barely above BP pressure levels, so this may be to what...

There's not much more case capacity to be gained in the .35 WCF. It has a very short neck as it is, and there's not much body taper. As for pressures, the SAAMI limit is 40,000 CUP for the Krag; and in Europe, the CIP limit is similar. The CIP also has a standard of 47,000 psi. Some of the early Kra...
