Re: Ruger lever gun-I am soooo weak

Monday morning dawned nice and a wee bit warmer than yesterday.I have been chomping at the bit to shoot the 96/44 so off to the gun club.I set up two targets. One at 50 yards and the other at 100 yards.Ammunition was Magtech factory loads. It only took five shots to get the little rifle hitting the 50...

Ruger lever gun-I am soooo weak

I made up my mind two years or so ago that I was going to get rid of my Ruger 96/44 and have nothing further to do with .44 magnum lever guns.Accordingly I advertised it here and AJMD bought it and takes every opportunity to post a picture of it.But being the firmly resolved type that I am I just pe...

I went to the gun club this morning just to shoot the new .22 Marlin. At 50 yards using iron sights I got about a 2" grouping after a couple of minor sight adjustments both front and rear.I hung an empty helium tank at 100 yards and could hit it every time and get the gong effect. At this point I...

The .357 seems to me to have a very sharp and harsh recoil and I find it uncomfortable to shoot.I do not get the same impression in a .44 magnum if that seems possible. You would think that a larger caliber has the worse recoil. At a range of 45 to 50 yards I can vouch for the fact that a .410 slug WILL put a deer down if the shot is placed properly.
I believe that in some of the northern USA shotgun only for deer states that a .410 is legal.

A manufacture date in 1975 indicates the receiver is probably made during the time that Winchester used an alloy steel that lost it's blueing with age and wear and this steel does not take well to re-blueing. That is at best a $275 rifle considering it's condition and where the SS number was scratch...
