Take care when you apply your first coat of finish not to lift the stain. I found that the gel stain lifts a little to easily when I added the oil.

have always heard the 180 grain do better, but I have never found any to test. I also have heard some people rave about how accurate the .357 carbines are, but I never had any luck with mine.....

That's a good idea. I played around with filling the pit in the stock with epoxy. In my sample pieces it looked good, but it would have required too much sanding to get it level and off of the surrounding wood. 1000 yds!! I have always wanted to try to shoot out that far! The JBM Software is pretty good, isnt it? I did the same sort of exercise with the iPad version recently with a 45-70, but only out to 400 yards.

Next time you get a stock with lots of dents and all greased up, spray it down with oven cleaner and let it sit overnight, spraying it down every now and then.
