geobru, that was a super interesting read, and some years ago I had a near identical experience with a vintage 1895 Winchester in caliber .38-72. If you owned a new Corvette, would you leave it in the garage just because it was too valueable to drive? I think not. That rifle was built to be used and enjoyed, so use it!

While I primarily shoot target velocity cast lead bullets in both rifle and handgun, I do have jacketed bullet loads for a few of my rifles when I want to speed things up a bit, and I keep a box or two of jacketed hollow points for each of my handguns. I have sixteen RCBS Lube-A-Matic bullet sizer presses, the oldest is a Lachmiller brand from about 1970. Why so many? Crazy Horse, you are in luck. I sold my .32-40 Winchester and have a good supply of cast lead bullets on hand. One is the RCBS 32-170-FN, a gas check design, and the other is an Accurate 32-180T, a plain base design. Somewhere in my collection of nearly a hundred molds is a Lyman 319247, also a plai...

That Kelly is a super sight and it looks great on your rifle. Now you need to swap out the front sight for a Lyman 17A globe sight and you'll be good out to 500 yards and have a top notch NRA Lever Action Silhouette rifle to boot.

Gunny, I would stay away from 70+ gr. cast lead bullets. They just don't stabilize well in older rifles. Take a look at the 257420 Lyman, a 60 gr. gas check bullet that shoots well. Of course the gas check nearly doubles the cost of the bullet, but they are at least stable and accurate. If you want ...
