Re: Always carry a gun.

Scott Kolar of SK grips hooked me up with some of his beautiful mammoth ivory grips and Gunsite did a great job on the design of the LW series 70 Commander.

Thanks gents. NATH: looks like a spotted? Not familiar with that saying...

Based on the info, modern ammo is a bit hotter than the original load. Any thoughts on pressure concerns with using modern ammo in this 100+ year old lady?

Re: 30-06 loads for between the wars.

Thanks. What I have found out is in 1906, standard load was 150 grain at 2700fps. In 1926, us went to a 174gr at 2647fps. In 1938, they went to 151gr. 2740fps. The leaves are marked : fixed 100, then 2, 3, 400, then 500 to 1000.

30-06 loads for between the wars.

I just purchased a Mauser, made between the wars, and made for long range shooting. It has set triggers, an octagon to round barrel, 28 inches long. Three folding leaf sights and then a ladder scaled to 1000 yards. Made in Germany, marked Germany so I'm guessing a transition piece made for the US ma...

Congrats. I picked up one in 44 special but with 5.5 inch barrel. Same deal, like new. Mine is from 1980. Brought it home yesterday. Jack is spot on. I have used buffalo bore heavy loads, 250 grain Keith style semi wadcutter at 1000 fps, out of my other colts for hunting. Most of my shooting is mid ...

The BLR 81 , in stainless steel, take down and .308 is high on my list. Accurate, small package, good power, pointy bullets extend bullet performance, and can easily mount a scope. Comes with a laminate stock, not shiny plastic paint. I think for most medium size game, it would be a great utility ri...

I'm with Bill in Oregon. I've owned several PCP. Quiet, clip fed, powerful. I used a hand pump and extra cylinders. However , I sold them all and kept my .20 cal springer (same as Bill's model) and bought two cases of its favorite ammo. I have about 3000 shots through it. I like the simplicity. Powe...

.45 ACP medium game hunting bullets/loads?

Thoughts? I'm thinking east coast deer, hogs? I'm thinking a large flat Meplat, at or near +P speeds with a hard cast bullet would work. I'm also looking at using a revolver, not a semi-auto.

Side question, model 1917 up to service with such a load?

Anyone have experience with subsonic .308 loads

I have a .30 cal can in the works and have come across some factory subsonic .308 200grainers at the local toy store. Two different brands. One is a HPBT and the other is a soft point. Wondering about about effectiveness on deer? Thoughts?
