Re: Were the first lever guns really 'assault rifles' of the day

Advertising for firearms in the early days did include ads showing or talking about self defense. Some of the "cheap" handguns were marketed as "bicycle" pistols to defend against attacking dogs. Bat Masterson wrote a book called "The Tenderfoot's Turn" about the Savage...

When studying the ballistics, the short cartridges do not gain much from longer barrels in a closed breech system. The cartridges that can gain a lot are the ones that are longer for the caliber like the .22 Magnum ... .357 Magnum etc. What really improves with going to a carbine/rifle over the hand...

I don't remember - does Cimarron sell both Uberti and Pietta made revolvers, or just Uberti ones? As far as I know their guns are made by both Uberti and Pietta. They usually go to some effort to put the Italian maker marks out of sight. Top of the barrel IMG_7815.JPG Bottom of the barrel IMG_8413....

That is a nice looking sixgun Malamute! Sounds like you got it running OK. My Cimarron hits about POA at 20 yards with the Keith SWC over 8 gr. of Unique. At the same distance my .45 ACP loads are about 1 1/2" low. I have not cut the front sight yet. It's close enough that I can shoot both. I w...

In the Model 1892 Winchester the cartridges come from the magazine to the barrel at a fairly steep angle. To make feeding smooth, the rear of the cartridge must be lifted to be in line with the chamber. This is done by means of a Left and Right Cartridge Guide. As the cartridge is pushed up the lift...
