Re: I was in Fredricksburg yesterday and stopped in to see the new Cimarron guns

Cimarron Firearms is Mike Harvey's and he is a stickler for making the guns like the originals. They are built for him by several companies including Pietta. John Taffin once wrote that Mike Harvey was responsible for authentic reproductions in a way no one else had been. This .45 Colt is a Cimarron...

Bill in Oregon wrote: Sat Jun 21, 2025 8:10 am Interesting. I hadn't even heard of it. Was it an intermediate step before the .480???
It's the 480 cartridge. Same length as the .44 Magnum cartridge. I heard that this was the original designation of the cartridge before they settled on "480 Ruger."

I have shot them in my Single Six as well as in the Ruger American rifle with no issues. They are hard enough to get that you could probably trade them for Magnums to someone who has a WRF. Unless you just want some lower power loads.

In the movies you usually see the rifle in a scabbard riding level on the right side of the horse. And not tied in. I have seen the rifle carried like this fall out when the horse has to make a small jump over a wash or just move quickly. And the gun is on the wrong side if you need to get it out fa...
