I use the Lee Collett Crimp die and crimp in the middle of the bullet, just about the same depth as in an ACP case. I have not had any jump the crimp.

Hi Jim. If you were looking for the same "feel" as your load above, but shooting 200-grain LRN-FP bullets, would you use the same 4.0 grain load of Bullseye? Yes. I have, but with a 230 gr. .45 ACP Roundnose bullet over 4.0 gr. Bullseye. Using that light of powder charge in the big Colt c...

I got rained out the other day on the Range ...
so I made it back to the Range yesterday. Wanted to test some of the loads I had chronographed. IMG_8753.JPG The Blue Dot load with the .45 ACP hardball is a nice shooting load. And the 4 gr. of Bullseye load with the Keith SWC is really pleasant! I spent quite a bit of time shooting clay pigeons on...

I think so. Barrel length is more a personal preference and generally does not make a huge difference ballistically in a sixgun.

Re: Favorite barrel length for a hunting sixgun?
Being out where the game is helps a lot. I don’t feel competent to shoot at 60 plus yards. This deer was shot in the South Texas brush at maybe 30-35 yards. The shot wasn’t perfect but a .45 cuts a big hole and I just followed the blood trail. That is a factor not usually considered by those who pr...

I’m thinking loading head forward would make a heck of a solid wadcutter You have to load them with the base being the rear of it when using the empties as a bullet. If you load an empty cartridge base forward, the primer blows out of the primer pocket and leaves the cartridge-bullet stuck part way...

Re: Favorite barrel length for a hunting sixgun?
I don't know why hunting with an iron-sighted sixgun is still such an attraction, but I can't put it out of my mind. Part of it is the same reason some try doing it with pointed sticks and others with spears. You have to hunt! You cannot snipe from long distance. I always enjoyed shooting game at d...

Thanks fellas. Jim, where did you find an 8-inch barrel? Carry it in an X-15? John Linebaugh got it from an old gunsmith in Montrose, Colorado who bored and rifled barrels. He was fairly famous years ago for his barrels but I don't remember his name anymore. It was hand-cut and hand-lapped. The bor...

The old model 357 Flattop is one of The Best Ruger made, to my way of thinking. It is basically the same as the Colt SAA in size and grip shape and feel. Colt stocks actually fit the original XR3 grip. I have played with .357 flattops that have been converted to .44 Special and .45 Colt and they wer...

It's the sideways blast that is dangerous. High pressure gas in a razorblade thin stream out left and right. I was armed to the teeth with a pitiful little Smith & Wesson's seven-shooter, which carried a ball like a homopathic pill, and it took the whole seven to make a dose for an adult. But I thought it was grand. It appeared to me to be a dangerous weapon. It had only one fault--you could not hit an...

I once asked God why we die so young.
I didn't hear a voice answer but the thought that came suddenly was "Mankind was created for eternity. It would not matter how long we lived if we feel this life is all there is. It would never be long enough."
