That's pretty much normal ... When I hunted with the 300 gr. 45 Colt loads I water quenched all my bullets for the heavy loads. Especially when hunting bears.

Thanks for sharing that. A lot of us have done similar things. These days when I load a gun in the house I repeat out loud 10 times "The gun is loaded. The gun is loaded." I want that stuck in my brain.

I have lots of stories of those who I warned about this, and they did not pay attention to it. If you have spent 1/2 hour or more dry firing and you pick up a gun afterwards the odds are you will fire it.

Yes I am sure they do. But you do have 2 separate rifles in one package. However, I am sure that's why a lot of the early hunters in Africa had a gun bearer or two.

The original bushing was very soft. The primer set-back on the higher pressure loads I was testing hammered it pretty hard. It probably took between 600 and 800 rounds to do that. I have fired thousands heavy loads in the gun since I case-hardened the new one back in the 1970's and it is just fine.

They have to have a good percentage of antimony. They will get really hard when water quenched. All the tests were done years ago and were in the NRA Cast Bullet Handbook I think it was called. I used to do it until I found out I didn't need to.
