Nice snag. IIRC Teddy Roosevelt used an 1895 in 30-40 Krag in Africa. Again, if memory serves me, he specifically mentions taking a giraffe with it. My guess is his was the rifle length, not the SRC like you got. That looks like a handy bit of ordinance you managed to snag!

Sounds like a sound plan. :-) I've made up various mental lists of what I'd take this year, but it's all theoretical at this point. Also, the 25-35 Ackley Improved shows the most improvement in performance with a very usable extra powder space due to the very tapered body being blown out straight. I always kind of wanted a Marlin in 25-35 AI for a varmint levergun.
