Re: Ruger Marlin 1894 44 Magnum

High Desert Hunter, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I've replaced a few busted/bent rear band screws and they can be a PITA to get out. And yes some new production ones are brittle. Older band screws, in my experience, tended to be a tad soft but I believe this was to make them more malleable...

My basic 45 ACP load uses the 230 grain Jeff Cooper bullet, from Bear Creek, over 5.4 grains of 231 for around 840 fps and excellent accuracy from any good 45, round or flat. One dose leaves garden marauders literally DRT and I wouldn't worry about using it on anything bigger. https://static.wixstat...

I don't buy pistol gripped Marlins, but this old '55 Ballard rifled 35 sure scratched all my itches. It had been used just hard enough to be treated like a working gun. It shoots good too. I've had a couple of early Uberti Cattlemen, 357 and a 44. Both got lots of Magnum loads, some mild loads and were dry fired some. Both peened the firing pin holes to the extent they required dressing.

Uberti ought to have corrected that problem long ago. My next spaghetti sixgun will be a Pietta.
