Killer;
This was discussed at length on one of my posts on the old forum and I read a thorough .405 article recently that considered the 30-40 as perfect for conversion to a few rimmed cartridges. Here is the link:

The 2008 Shooters Guide came in the mail today and it has reports on all types of guns, ammo, and accessories. The Ammo article includes a Winchester section that reports on their new Tedddy Roosevelt line of cartridges, one of which is the .405 Winchester with a 300 grain flat point bullet. No othe...

Ravenman; Sorry the 1895 .405 is not readily available there in Switzerland, however there were some very nice .405 double guns made in Belgium some years ago. I saw two of them at the Tulsa gunshow 18 months or so back. Both were well made and handled like 28 ga shotguns - nice! Pete 44: Very nice ...

Mod71Alaska: Good idea, I will do that with a seperate post, as I need a good shot of the elk on the left side of the reciver. Pets44; Agreed, the new Cabelas s...

Nath; I have shot a friends 1895 .405 without a recoil pad from the bench with hot 300 handloads at about 2250 -2300 fps and with a shoulder recoil pad it was no problem. Shooting in the field wearing a light jacket, the shooter should not feel a thing - much like a 12 ga shotgun. In fact, my 12 ga ...

The rifle, 5 boxes of Hornady 300 gr JFP ammo, and reloading dies arrived today and all things are as represented by the seller. The rifle looks NIB except for the Limb Saver recoil pad and Williams receiver sight. It is a Beauty and ready to go hunting! I will add Pics tomorrow, and I am really eag...

Question for Hog hunt and TX Safari Hunters
Is anyone from the Carrollton, TX area going on one of these hunts? If so, would you be willing to bring my Blackbuck shoulder mount back to Carrollton for me? The mount is at Keep It Real Taxidermy in Castroville, which is near Hondo. However, Corey Burris, the owner, will likely bring it over to t...

Another thing about high magnification scopes - Heat distortion can make high magnification useless. My Bausch and Lomb Discoverer goes up to 60 power, but for field use, the large size and weight make it clumsy to transport and use. With my Velbon heavy duty camera tripod for a steady mount and a 3...

My new Leupold scope is the Wind River Sequoia, not the Gold Ring. Mine cost just over $200 from Natchez with no tripod (I already had a tripod and monopod). The Gold Ring costs several hundred dollars more, as does their compact scope. Other than this minor qualification on the scope, 86ers evaluat...
