Re: .40-82 woes

Currently mu outside neck diameter range from .430 to .433. Maybe if I run them through the sizer again after shortening them to 2.395 they may work. I'll try that in a while. Still retro plumbing in the remodeled back bathroom. :)

Re: .40-82 woes

I suspect you'll be turning a couple of thousandths off the outside of the top bit about the length of the seated bullet in the case. I think Starline brass, being of higher quality than the older Winchester stuff, starts out a bit thicker anyway and has flowed a wee bit forward as part of forming....

My 7X57 likes the 120 Barnes TTSX. I have loaded 5 rounds of this bullet using 42.7 grs XMR 4064, 43/IMR 4320, and 42/Varget. Brass is new PRVI and WLR primers. Loads will be chronographed with my Chrony Beta Master unit set at 15' + muzzle.

.40-82 woes

Trouble with loading these cartridges has me scratching my noggin. I'm using some of my Starline .45-90 brass to form the .40 cases. I annealed the cases, ran than through a RCBS .40-82 forming die followed by a Redding full length sizing die, then reamed them to .2.395". After chamfering the m...

Te Winchester boxes were good values, the Remington not so much. $50 would be tops for them. Like firearms, condition is everything. Tape, pencil and ink marks, broken seals, smashed corners, etc, will detract by a minimum of 50%.

The smokeless box is the 1911-12 style and Giles/Shuey says a wide range, $150-275.

It is a very amateurish job, to say the least. The forward mag tube hanger should be centered 3 13/16ths from the end of the barrel and secured with a screw through the mag cap and into an indent in the barrel bottom. The tube hanger cam be either the pinned type or the rotate in one.

Geezer, you are a man after my own heart. I also wouldn't own a Winchester that can't be afield, regardless of condition or rarity. They are merely machines built to do a job and to dishonor them by keeping them in the back of a safe does neither machine or man any good. :)
