Re: H110/W296 & Primer questions
I've read that the Win WLP primers for magnum and standard loads are fine for H110/296, and then again I've read you really really really must use a true magnum primer. I load full power 44 Magnum cartridges using H110 and Winchester LP Standard/Magnum primers and they have always performed well. T...

I too think the 45/70 Govt. and the 444 Marlin are interchangeable. And I think a 330 grain bullet is a heavy bullet. And both cartridges will make gravel out of big rocks any day of the week.

I think the 270 Winchester is the finest western deer cartridge available. I have seen many deer dropped in their tracks when hit with a 270 Winchester using nothing more than plain old factory loaded 130 grain Cor-Lokts or Power-Point bullets. Pistol grips here. My large hands just prefer the feel. Same here. Straight grips cock my wrist more than I like. I think Marlin makes a good pistol grip, followed closely by Winchesters's M71. No, assuming it's chambered in 44 magnum. If its chambered in 45 Colt, you can only shoot 45 Colt in it. The 44 Special cartridge is a slightly shorter and lower pressure ("lighter") cartridge than a 44 Magnum. They do, however, shoot the same bullets. You can shoot 44 Special cartridges i...

The bullets meplat is slightly narrower than a standard SWC's, but not by very much. The 30-30 in a 16" Trapper barrel does not loose enough performance to hinder it's use as a hunting rifle. A few feet per second slower won't matter to the deer, he'll never know the difference. They are definitely NOT a toy. Joe and a couple other posters are correct, the loss of velocity in ...

Chamber pressures of a 3.5 inch is pretty steep and the barrel steel treatment may not be up to it. In addition, if it was designed for 3 inch, don't expect it to feed and function correctly with an additional half inch shell. I think you would be better off finding one chambered for 3.5 inches inst...
