I was able to get a few pictures clear enough to post. There is one with the W in the circle. It is in a 405wcf. There are other primer stamps and head stamps to look at, too. Acording to w30wcf, it is as you suspect. A method of identifying the cartidges containing early smokeless rounds. The black powder rounds didn't have a mark. In my small collection I have some marked primers. I'll see if I can get a good picture.

Are the check in stations DNR, or are they local businesses? Here in Ohio it is the later. Most do the check in as a way to increase potential customers. I'm trying to get some information on why, when Winchester came out with the 38 WCF, it was not called the 40WCF since it is .401 caliber. Anyone have any info on this? It has been discussed elsewhere but not answered. I personally have heard several theories. What's yours.

I don't know how many primer variations you have, but you could open another pack of each and see which ones they match. At least in my case thats what I have done. But I only have a couple types and they are different looking when compared. Just a thought.
