Re: OT wanting to build a gunroom/closet/safe
Hey there HR. Interesting ideas on the safe. I like the panel idea about glueing multiple wired concrete backer board. Sounds strong and fireproof. Anything made from wood will burn and can be accessed with a simple saw. Perhaps a layer of expanded metal glued in. With todays construction adhesives,...

Re: Great hunters are always Aware of their surroundings...
This is exactly why we are taught as beginners to "Know your target, and beyond." Hunters get so fixed on the target animal that, in all the excitement, they forget to look beyond. Other hunters, houses or livestock can be just beyond.

Re: Purpose of a Crowned Barrel
The crown on a barrel is not the same as the muzzle. The crown is the part of the muzzle from the bottom of the grooves to the top of the lands at the muzzle end. Most round barrels have a radius muzzle and most octagon barrels have a flat muzzle but all have a crown. On most round barrels with radi...

I think you will find all the "dash" cartridges used the same meanings except one. The first number is as you said, calibre, the second is black powder in grains and if you have a third number as in 45-70-405 it is, cal - powder - bullet in grains. The one oddball cartridge is the 38-40 w...

Boiling in water won't "blue" metal. It's not hot enough. To hot blue, the metal needs to get to about 600 degrees. Melted salt works.
