Just a tip. On my 1892 Winchester, if I slightly push in on the loading gate as I open the lever, I can extract the chambered round without releasing the next round from the magazine.

Acctually we did call him tri-pod sometimes. Buddy is gone now but he was a favorite of mine. Enough so that I still have this picture on my screen saver. He lost the leg in an accident but fully recovered after the vet removed it.

That was great. But on the serious side, I've been to Nuenen, in the Netherlands, where Vincent was from. My father in law was born and raised there. Wonderful countryside. There are still Van Goghs around but alas, I never met any. Sorry, no pics. :wink:

Good skills you have there. That's something I've yet to do. I made two years ago before I knew better and made them with wedged eyes instead if tapered hawk eyes. Heck, I don't even have an eye drift yet. I need to get off my adz. What is your iron of choice, if I may ask?

I hate hunting in the rain. But if I have to, over the years I've gotten away with one of those cheap 1 or 2 dollar rain suits over my pants but under my outer camo pants. With just a little care, they can last for many hunts. You just have to have them outside your boots.

I shoot 50 grains fff in my 45 Kentucky doing probably sub sonic and nary a deer has gotten up to complain about the inadequate load. Having enough power is rarely the problem.
Some folks think that more power is more important than accuracy. I disagree.

Nice anvil there AB and it's still in serviceable condition. Jack. I really doubt they would have built barrels one way or another based solely on how they would stack to ship. I figure they stopped when the crate was full. :wink:

As to why barrels are octagon and not hexagon has always intrigued me. Being a blacksmith, I have always felt that it had to do with the fact that when it all started, the blacksmith made the barrels and wrought iron was the material. This is just me but I like older better, so I would vote for a Model 1899, instead of a 99. I'm the same with Winchesters. I would prefer a model 1892 over a model 92, 1894 over a 94, and so on.
