Got the rust bluing done! Boiled, and polished out, and looks a little darker than I was planning to do. But better a little darker than too grayish. Great gun, in a great cartridge! Very easy to load for and fun to shoot too! Had a couple in a S&W DA, and an earlier New Model #3 SA also. Always loved that cartridge!

The real questions will be longevity, and how well it maintains proper clearances for wear. The Wankel made big HP, but it was not an economical engine as far as mileage goes. And of course they didn't last long, even though their performance in all sorts of racing was very impressive.

Basing the response on the caveat of ".308 level power" eliminates a number of guns capable of taking all sorts of medium sized game. If I had to choose one that meets that criteria it would have to be a Savage 99 in something like the venerable old .300 Savage cartridge.

I wouldn't care whose making them; I wont buy anything when it first hits the market. I always wait to hear or read reviews from the average shooter first. I don't trust gun magazine reviews, as they are often biased, and not very accurate.

Nice additions to your collection! The 1885 is a time proven strong design, and I like the look of yours too. Should have a lot of enjoyment with it! Adding a vernier tang sight will make it even more accurate later!

I wouldn't call a .357 a "big bore" myself.
I'd assume it's the limited number made that makes this an expensive S&W. I personally love Smiths, but wouldn't pay the premium when I could get a regular 27 in similar length barrel, and do the same job with it.

I love carrying the 1911 for concealed carry in the cooler months. But it's very had to conceal in the warmer months when I'm dressed lighter. So for those months I carry my compact 9mm instead.
