I love them old plum Rugers. You see it on some of their rifle receivers too and not necessarily on older guns. I've got a recent vintage M77 (my only non-lever centerfire) that the receiver is turning plum. While I like plum, I prefer it when they turn colors like this: :D :D :D http://photos.image...

Got me a nice eight point today!
Nice little young eight point. Unfortunately it had been gutshot by a spineless poacher on my property. One shot through a front leg too. Best I can figure it was yesterday morning. I found it walking through the woods this afternoon about 150yds into the woods beyond the pasture, in the middle of t...

Cary does an excellent job with his grips and is a pleasure to deal with. His off the shelf grips tend to fit much better than aftermarket grips and his custom fitting is near-perfect. He handles special requests easily and can send you pictures of his blanks for you to pick one out. If he didn't do...

One word of advice, never, ever lower the hammer from half cock. Always bring it all the way back to full cock before lowering it back down. When you lower the hammer from half cock, the bolt rises up between the notches and it is a surefire way to ring the cylinder of you spanking new Colt. Always ...

Why? :? Well, for one thing, Colt and Remington did it! Between the Colt 1860 and the 1872 Open Top that led to the Single Action Army of 1873, Colt engineers Richards and Mason worked on converting all their percussion guns to fire metallic cartridges. From the smallest to the largest, including t...

I definitely would not do it. Those brass frames just aren't strong enough. Check out the new Remington 1858 cartridge conversions from Cimarron. They're also available as a convertible with both .45Colt and .44 percussion cylinders.

I'm interested too, always wondered about that. I believe the receiver of my Fabarm double is advertised as a french gray finish but it looks like hard chrome. Though it seems like french gray has been around far longer than industrial hard chrome finishes. I'm sure there are several ways to do it. ...

Recoil is highly subjective. What works great for one makes another bleed. However, for most shooters (including this one), the Bisley is the way to go for heavy recoil. Another aspect that has a huge impact on felt recoil is the grips themselves. Grips that are properly fitted to both sixgun and sh...

OT - ML Knives
Anybody have any experience with these? I've been wanting a rather authentic looking frontier knife for hunting/skinning duties and found an ad for this maker. Prices seem really reasonable. I've got the hots for a rig from Wild Rose/Cactus Rose but right now can't spend that much money on it. http:...

Re: BUCKEYE
There was nothing special about the pistol's except the obvious. Have to disagree there. They were equipped with the standard Blackhawk XR3-RED grip frame except that it was blued steel rather than aluminum. Same for the ejector housing. The whole sixgun received a much better finish overall than t...

There's nothing in the world quite like the Single Action Army. Unfortunately, for most of the third generation, quality has been on the downward slope compared to previous offerings. Many guns are way overpolished and fit and finish is not what it used to be. Almost all will need a tuneup to surviv...

Those auctions are surprising, especially the used one. When people ask for pricing on these at RugerForum they're usually quoted $500-$550 for the .38-40 and $600-$650 for the .32-20. Either way good luck, judging by those auctions you just might get that much for it. They don't make `em anymore. G...

Great sixguns, mine is an excellent shooter. I'm afraid your price might be a little high. These guns still trade for $500-$550 NIB with shipping sleeve. Used, you're looking at $400-$450. Paid $500 for mine two years ago, brand new with the original box and shipping sleeve. I wouldn't figure more t...
