Just wish I'd of kept mine back in the 1980's. Thanks for the pics, fellers!

Re: Savage 99 head space
Very good post. Lots of variables I didn't think about. I think I'll not try that approach.
Thank you very much for the heads up.

Re: Savage 99 head space
Thanks BenT,
I didn't think of something as simple as that. I guess I AM getting older.
I appreciate it,

Re: Savage 99 head space
Thanks GunnyMack, I kind of had the same thoughts about the tightness of the lockup. The shape it's in, I don't think it was used very much. It has marbles sights all around including the tang peep. Still has most of the original finish also. Thanks for your insights. I can't wait get it out and try...

Re: Savage 99 head space
Thanks, GunnyMack, I didn't know if there was a way to do it without gauges. The gun is in really good shape, doesn't appear to be used or abused much. When taking the barrel down it seems tight at the beginning, as it should be. The bore is a little dark and has some copper fouling and what might b...

How do you check the head space on an old (1917) take down 250-3000 ?

Re: Legendary Lawman Model 94 Carbine
You should remove the butt plate and inspect it. I bought one from an estate several years ago that had set in a closet in the new box for years. There was some rust under the butt plate. Wasn't hard to remedy but was there.
Hope yours is ok.

99 savage barrel lapping
I have a 1917 250-3000 takedown that has a pretty fair bore. A little dark and a little pitted. Was wondering has anyone done barrel lapping to correct this and how aggressive. Any help would be appreciated.
Kindest regards and Merry Christmas,

Re: Is a takedown less strong than a non takedown?
Absolutely beautiful pictures and beautiful rifle. well described work by Turnbull, also. I'm a little old-fashioned. I have a savage 99 takedown from 1917. 250-3000 cal. I've never had any problem with weakness with the takedown system. Apparently, they did it right back then.

Re: New pistol problem
I'd shoot it first. might be the best shooter you ever saw. If not call the factory, they might just want you to send the barrel for inspection or replacement. no need for FFL.

Seniorlevergunner got it right when he said it had to be capable of FULL auto fire. You guys need to get your definitions right.

If I was Andy, I'd throw your next order in the trash but it sounds like he's a better man than that. Just saying.

The threads on marbles first apertures were 10-40 at the beginning.
