Re: Why did the 1894 happen and NOT a 1892/1886 Mid Size
A 86/92 action scaled to the 30WCF family of cartridges wouldn't be much smaller than an 86 due to the length of the cartridge (perhaps it could be made slightly narrower but the length wouldnt change). The 94 got real rifle cartridges in an action about the same size as a 92. Having the works drop...

Re: Why did the 1894 happen and NOT a 1892/1886 Mid Size
In other words why didn't a STRETCHED or EXTENDED FRAME 92' come along. Plenty of real estate to house a 30-30 cartridge when it can house a 44mag/45LC dia. case, the 30wcf is much smaller diameter But I realize the lever throw would increase substantially, and that would be a chain reaction of geom...

Re: Why did the 1894 happen and NOT a 1892/1886 Mid Size
The 1894 happened because they wanted a lightweight rifle with a more powerful cartridge than the 1892. Right But I got to wonder why the design was changed so much, the '86 & '92 where: "the guts don't come out when you lever it" "no trigger block/interlock safety" The 94 j...

Why did the 1894 happen and NOT a 1892/1886 Mid Size
I cant recall reading if the 1894 design came along to streamline production, cut costs on amount of pieces/labor, if it was a packaging issue of keeping the longer 30-30 a "short stroke lever" versus a Marlin....... I got wonder why the 30-30 mid sized action was never developed. I know J...

I shoot 32-20
Probably the funnest cartridge of all, for plinking or small game.
And the most head scratching over if it would get brought along for a deer
A modern rifle w a modern load, sure hits the steel hard. That's a 90gr got to be doing 2200fps I would think. Haven't measured yet.

I also got to wonder how many situations get handled w 5.56 / 223 up there, out of practicality.....seems everyone's got one or access to one, and a 223 to the neck or head is a devastating injury to any critter. Ya the Speer Bullets have been pretty soft in my experience, maybe too soft, maybe just right for 30-30. They are affordable and usually available which is nice.
And the Win Silvertip may be moving at the just right speed in the 30-30.

M94 Trapper Full Power Loads 30-30
I been thinking for 30-30 in a 16" Trapper, being a very light and handy gun, that maybe the 150gr Sierra would be ideal for my full power handloads. This is an all around up North Hunting load I'm after. Had good luck w Sierra's lately, and read a few reviews where guys say this bullet, p/n: #...

So the early M94's had no trigger block?
Or they all did to ensure the action was locked up before trigger can be pulled.

Is this a true statement? I found it reading through old posts What I really like about the pre-64s vs the post 64's is the lever, on pre-64s the lever closes hard against the stock, and it just feels much better to me then the post 64's which require the lever to be squessed to fire the weapon. I am going to see how the 32-20 does, before I'd buy a 218 It shoots flat to 165yds, maybe more. But that about my game limit w irons. Also 90gr is moving right along to stay flat, so damage might be high at that velocity. We will see. I know 32-20 aint a deer cartridge either...but it hit the steel...
