Re: Why did the 1894 happen and NOT a 1892/1886 Mid Size
The reason why, as already stated, is weight. The biggest complaint about the 86 is weight. Having the guts drop out of a 94 allows a longer bolt throw with a shorter length of action. Having the locking bolts in the 86 and 92 being parallel with the bore makes for a longer action and subsequently, ...

Re: Leaving the Magazine Tube Loaded
It's not as simple as springs get weak with use/being compressed vs not. You have to also consider the application. Many of the high capacity magazine springs are right at their limit for compression and will go bad with both use and being left loaded. Most leverguns and similar mag tube designs do ...

I have a current production Winchester 92 in 44 Magnum, and I have a Winchester 94 30-30 from 1971. My 92 is a rifle with 24" barrel and shotgun butt, and the 94 is a traditional carbine with shotgun butt. The 94 of course is lighter and easier to carry being it's a carbine. Both are comfortabl...

Vegetable tanned leather will not corrode brass the way chrome tanned leather will. It's more expensive to tan that way which is why the other is more prevalent. I do not. I could probably figure it out for my 30-30 as I keep a record of how many times my lots of brass have been fired. Ain't got a clue for most others. I had a rough guess of 7,000 rounds on my 45 1911 before I sold it. My 22's, it'd be mighty hard to track. My cousin and I put a 500 round br...

. I'd rather have ten guns that might have cost $3,000 each, than fifty that I bought for 'only' $800 each, and in the end would have spent less money anyway. Those 39's are nice guns. I carried a Smith 4006 a while, that's the double stack 40.
Heck, I carry my Blackhawk all the time now. I'm about the most comfortable with a New Model Ruger than I am anything else, so I figured why not?
For an automatic, a 1911 is hard to beat in my estimation.

Neat to get a gift like that. I'd say you have about 2 options, scour some local gunsmiths for a bolt and takeoff stock or find a rifle for a donor that was somehow damaged, such as with a plugged bore. Some hole in the wall gunsmiths might have a bolt and stock on a shelf somewhere and be more inte...

I was able to visit with my friend, and help him work up a load based on Snooky's data. We did use that MBW 420 grain bullet, but in order to feed through the loading gate we had to seat the bullet to 2.710 and crimp just past the driving band on the ogive. With this, we worked up to 62.0 IMR 3031. ...
