I remember as a kid going to Bullseye matches with my Dad, he would blacken his sights with a carbide lamp. I still have all of his bullseye equipment including the lamp. The can of carbide I have seems to have lost is ability to produce gas.
Great find.

Re: Red Dot powder
"The Load" by Ed Harris, recipe for 2400 or RD in military rifles with cast bullets. I've always used 2400 for the vast majority of my cat bullet loads, I picked up a couple cans of RD at a gunshow a few years ago and it works great for "The Load."

Re: Info on Orignal Winchester 1892 Conversion to 357 & 44 Magnum
I think it was fairly common in the 50's and 60s as there weren't many options for new caliber lever guns to go with Bill Ruger's new Blackhawk's and other revolvers at the height of the cowboy/western programming on t.v. and in the theaters. Re: Trapdoor movie gun.
That's going to be a beauty when you get it finished. My sister has (her late husbands) a BATJACK trapdoor carbine. It is very rough inside and out, the bore is extremely pitted so I suspect it fired a lot of BP blanks over the years.

Re: Broken/stuck 22 short case
I recently had a 45-70 case break off in the chamber of my 1886. I soaked it with Kroil then tried a new brush and a tight patch neither worked. I didn't have any cerosafe so I pushed/pounded a lead roundball through as if slugging the bore and it took it right out.
