Heck, even John Linebaugh, the guru of monster loads in medium size revolvers says that his everyday working loads in .45 Colt are 8 to 8.5 grains of 231 behind a 250 grain cast bullet. Quite a contrast to his dinosaur loads.

JDL, I had wondered whether molds for .30-30 cast bullets were available in plain base. Seems like they would work nicely if the velocity were kept below about 1500 fps. Thanks for the post; I think I'll look into that. Sounds like a good time.

No, you're right, Scott.
They are ringtail cats; coatis are much larger animals. There are significant populations of ringtails around NM, specifically around Ft. Sumner and Vaughn. My game camera in my driveway picked up a picture of one several months ago.

I only very seldom shoot jacketed bullets.
It's necessary in .223, .243, 6.5, 7mm, .308 and .30-06 but everything else up to .375 H&H and .45-70 is cast only. It makes me less dependent upon political swings.

My shooting partner has a Henry .22 mag lever gun with an octagonal barrel. I am envious because it's a fine rifle; well-made and accurate. It doesn't enter into the controversy about having a side gate or not.

I'm with you on the 9422. I have one in .22lr and another with a beautiful laminated stock in .22 mag. I still have a Remington Nylon 66 as well as my first rifle, a Winchester model 61 pump. One that I regret letting get away was a Remington 541-S bolt action. Twas a beautiful gun.

I don't know whether they'll fit the old models. I only own one old model (unfortunately) but it already has the hammer since it's an SBH. Otherwise, the SBH hammers should fit all Ruger single actions except the Single Six family of revolvers and the Bearcats.

Good subject! That RCBS 30-150-FN is probably an excellent all around cast bullet for .30-30. I don't have that mold but I plan to order one if I can find it. Didn't the Mountain Guns come with Ahrends grips from the factory? Mine had Ahrends on it but in my dry climate they warped and I replaced them with Eagle grips.

I have done that with every one of my regular Blackhawks except for one which I replaced with a Bisley hammer. That was quite a bit more work.
