By looks alone, I'm undecided. In either .223 or 300BO, I'm not sure I'd spend that much. I'd have to have my hands on one to decide. While I'm not a big fan of the AR platform, I do enjoy the ones I have.

Pyrodex is simply a rusting agent that happens to burn. Look up it's MSDS and look at its ingredients and warnings about its environmental hazards. I used it until 1988 when sitting around the campfire with Mike Venturino at End of Trail that year. And he described what it produces in its fouling. M...

This points right at the reason I've never wanted a .38-55. Old guns were all over the map dimension-wise... newly minted rifles were then made in the .375 Win mold, .375-.377 seemed the norm. Older firearms used the 2.125" length brass, but new brass seems to run 2.208". But... if I were ...

Although I've never killed a deer with anything less than a 7mm, mostly with my .30-30s, I think that with proper shot placement, distance, bullet construction, very doable. The 5.56's certainly killed its share of our nation's enemies for well over 50 years. And not all those shots were optimal.
