Re: article ...... Marlin 1894 Classic receives 2023 Editor's Choice Award

I recently had the opportunity to handle a new 1894 Classic in 357. A sample of one I know but looking it over I was favorably impressed. I would still like to have a 357 lever gun. The new 1894 is high on my 'want' list.

I second the 45 ACP recommendation. It's a lot of fun and if you happen to have an autoloader in matching caliber, so much the better.

Re: Anybody know Iver Johnson owl head 38's

Nice, especially for the price. My dad has a similar looking one only hammerless. As near as we can determine it seems to be a Model 2, Second Model, first variation and manufactured in or around 1896. It is a blackpowder model with a safety lever in the trigger, like a Glock. As a young man I shot ...

I agree with wvfarrier, it looks a LOT like a Henry. With that said however, I rather like it. For my purposes it checks a lot of boxes, other than caliber. I already have a BL-92 in 44. I would love an all weather levergun in 357 with loading gate loading option, threaded barrel with a peep and a r...

Re: Recoil as I age

Back in my early to late 20’s I thought recoil was no big deal. We’d shoot all day long with full house .44 Magnum loads of H-110 and 240 grain bullets. I thought it was fun. Same with .357’s or .45-70’s, I felt they needed to be full house. Looking back I question why? Now days I prefer my 44 loads...

I've also got an old set of 7x42 JC Penny field glasses from the '70's that are surprisingly good, though they need new eyepiece cups since the originals were eaten by mice when I left them in a hangar. Re: S&W Shield "EZ" version - pros, cons, personal experience?.

My late wife had a S&W 380 EZ as "her gun." Dealing with moderate to severe RA, it was one of the few handguns she could operate and shoot comfortably and we tried a number of them. She opted for the model with the safety. Overall hers was a good gun in my opinion, reliable, accurate e...

I picked up a Browning 92 Centennial in 44 a couple of years ago. It was like new in the box with the original paperwork and manual. I really like it and it’s a lot of fun to shoot. Along with the 92 there was also a Browning 1886 in 45-70, both had been taken in on trade. While tempted I only had e...

My wife suffered with moderate to severe RA for over 5 years before her death. Diagnosis was difficult at first because she did not show the normal markers. We keep my daughter's Red Ryder BB gun by the back door. In the winter we have squirrels that keep climbing onto our bird feeders. After they get shot in the butt a few times they tend to stay on the ground and off the feeders. Works well to keep them out of the garden in the summer too.

Handgun silhouette was the reason I bought a Super Blackhawk in the late 70s. My best friend bought a S&W 29 and we both competed back in the day. While never a serious threat to anyone, score wise, we had fun. Haven't heard of anyone shooting that in decades. Sad really.
