Re: chicken thief
My dog grabbed chickens when he first saw them. I didn't want that going on so I brought him into the chicken coop with a can of pepper spray. He went for a chicken and got sprayed...worked pretty quickly too. He's never gone after a chicken since. Just ignores them completely now.

I am in the minority, but I like them. They have been doing that style camo on compound bows for a while now and it's very popular there too. The good thing is that you can change it if you don't like it, and if you do you have the option. That pattern is a whole lot easier to take off than it is to...

Re: Bullets for deer
Yeah that's pretty typical of that bullet, it sheds it's front portion imparting quick shock, then the shank continues on penetrating quite far. Usually this results in smallish exit wounds compared to some bullets, but great penetration and surprising bone breaking ability. IMHO and this is just op...

Someone mentioned the meplate, not huge but workable. There are overlubed, and I use much less now, but it still gives you a good idea of the meplate size. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/wolfsasleep/GEDC0141_zps3ffa6f3d.jpg http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/wolfsasleep/GEDC0138_zps3...

Right now I'm using 32grns of Benchmark, which isn't even a max load but seems to shoot better than hotter 2200fps loads for me. But there's a couple other powders that hit the same speed, and this gun seems to shoot most of them just as well.

Re: Can still shoot my guns anyway
Out of curiosity, what poundage was the bow you were shooting? Recurves and long bows tend to be rather harsh drawing, a compound in anything from 45-50lbs tends to draw very easy and with todays bows, they are more than capable of deer or even elk sized game at quite impressive yardage.

I really like the saeco, I think they have a 250grn bullet I can push to the same speeds as I'm pushing this 215 grn. Last few days of the season. Thought I would take the 35 rem and my rcbs 35-200 for a stroll. I use air cooled WW alloy with gas check, sized at .359. I shoot a compound pretty well, but I have no issues with crosbows being used alongside both recurves and compounds. For one thing, not everyone is a 6 foot tall 200lbs dude. I'm 5'6 and while I can kill deer just fine with my 60lbs bow, a bigger person even shooting the same weight can often exceed...

There are definitely times the 243 is not the gun of choice. Going on a bear hunt in a few weeks, won't be taking the .243. That's mostly a stunt, and if I remember right range was inches. But at even a lowly 700 to 900fps, 50-60 yards is very doable on rabbits and even smaller game. There are people trying to do 1" at 100, it's rare but it has been done. Accuracy on these guns is amazing. Every shot in a dime at 20...
