Re: Score 170 gr Winchester Silvertip .30-30 ammo

I found a box the other day that had 9 left in it. Probably enough to last the rest of my life. I have plenty of other stuff if I run low. D Jim T, where did you find those nickel cases? They're pretty. Does anyone know why a mouse pees on brass? It sure pees me off. You can still get nickel brass ...

I always thought one of these would be cool, but I can't see dropping that kind of coin on one! :o

Re: Social use of the .30-30

I remember reading that the 30-30 was also very popular during the Mexican Revolution from 1910-1920. I'm trying to figure out how there were that many of them down there, as opposed to 92s and 73s, since the 94 hadn't been out near as long as the others by the time the war started. Also, how were t...

Re: Social use of the .30-30

Guys, I have dies and a lot of brass that I have saved over the years, but I have never loaded for the .30-30. I shoot factory loads and I prefer 170 gr soft points. The one load that I really miss is the old 170 gr Winchester Silvertip. It had an aluminum cap over the soft point. It stood up well ...

Re: Component Availability.....

Bass Pro doesn't even stock powder anymore, and primers are rarer than hen's teeth. They have some bullets, but they are getting ammo in. Earlier this week they had cases and cases of Federal 5.56 for sale, no limit, but for $700! Luckily I've got enough of that to fight two wars. Our Academy is use...

Re: For love of the 357 mag

I gained a greater appreciation for the .357 through reading Skeeter, Jim Taylor and Paco. Practically speaking, it will do everything one needs it to do.

Re: Time Travel Revisited

My 8 y/o granddaughters already think my wife and I (we're both 51) are ancient! They can't wrap their heads around the fact that we didn't have car seats, cell phones, cable TV, or Netflix when we were little. Of course, their kids will think we were living in the Stone Age, but I think every gener...

Re: Hammer Strap on a Conceal Carry Holster

My #120 holsters from Simply Rugged have retention straps, because that's how the 120 is made, but neither of them is a concealment holster. I have one of Rob's Loaded Pancake holsters for my 4" Model 29, and it has a thumb break on it. Rob had it for some reason and sent it to me that day. Oth...

Intro and return

I've made my way back over here after being gone for a while. I spent a long time in the tactical and training world, but at this point I'm pretty burned out. Facebook is more of a cesspool now, and I'm content to stay at home and not see too many people. But, I thought I'd reconnect with the more d...

Re: Concealed Carry

On the farm it's usually a Ruger Vaquero 44 Special, just because. When it's miserably hot and I have to go out in public, I'll carry my S&W 642 38 Special with the Barami Hip Grip and an extra six rounds on a Tuff Strip. Once it cools down I'll have either the Vaquero if I'm staying in our smal...

Re: A Repost Of An Old Article I Wrote Years Ago

Great article, Jim. I remember when you posted that one. Living in Missouri now, and being a history buff, has been pretty cool.

Like Scott, I rarely carry a second gun anymore. Usually have a Ruger Vaquero 44 Special on me, but there's a Winchester Wrangler .44 Magnum in the truck.
