In the novel "Black Light," author Stephen Hunter armed his protagonist, sniper Bob Lee Swagger, with a Mini 14. Hunter is a gun guy, so apparently he has an appreciation for the Mini 14. I'd say you're in good company!

Askins was a National Champion pistol shooter, as well as an accomplished man hunter. According to him, he was the first to kill a man with a .44 Magnum during his time in Vietnam. Skeeter wrote this article http://darkcanyon.net/The_Legend_Of_Charley_Askins.htm. Massad Ayoob and Evan Marshall both ...

Retired from the US Army in 2009, then went to work on the shooting range at Bass Pro in Springfield, MO. Started my own training business which really took off after the Sandy Hook shooting. I was also working for a national training company, so I was staying so busy I burned myself out of training...

Oh BTW, if you're looking for an all metal hi cap 9mm, the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Metal is outstanding. Steel slide, aluminum frame, optic ready, pretty much good to go right out of the box.

Re: Making peace with the 9mm
I use and carry a couple of different 9mm handguns, mainly because it's what most of my students use and it's the cheapest to shoot in competition. But my town has such a low crime rate that I'm pretty sure I can handle anything around here with a five or six shot revolver. Never have felt outgunned...

I always carry spare ammo, even though my life doesn't entail chasing bad guys into caves or buildings anymore. Whether it's a revolver or semi, I"ve always got at least one reload. I've usually got extra ammo on whatever long gun I've got in the truck with me.

Having one of the short shotguns like the Shockwave and your EDC gun will suffice in most cases. An AR pistol will give you more rounds and distance. Neither is wrong, just different tools. Remember, you're also driving a 3000lb battering ram, so that long skinny pedal on the right is your best frie...

I'd probably go with the 454. I'd pair it with a revolver in the same caliber, so I could use a couple of different bullet molds and keep them running. Along with the obligatory 12 gauge loaded with slugs or buckshot and a .22 rifle, I'd think all bases would be covered. However, I say all this as a...

Seeing how popular the .30-30 was during the Mexican Revolution, something like this would've come in handy. Probably would be popular on the border today, depending on what you were expecting to run into.

I've shot lots of PMC in other calibers, and I have a box or two of their .44 Magnum 250gr TCSP that I kept in my .44 Wrangler when I lived out West and went to the woods. PMC makes quality ammo, but I agree, a 240gr JHP from a 3" barrel probably isn't going to expand much. But, it's a nice, he...
