ARE YOU ALONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS 2014

This is my 10th year of this offer. If you will be alone for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years (or any seasonal holidays - Hannukah - it doesn't matter what denomination) you are welcome in my home. Come spend a few days with my family and I for food, companionship and celebration. There is no co...

Friends: I haven't checked in here in the past few months. The last time I was here I asked for your prayers for my family situation. These blessings were granted and we are still all together and working towards the future. In the meantime, I received an ordination and license for ministry from the...

Re: 35/30-30 Loading Dies?

Wow - I purchased the Redding dies from Midway one year ago for $109. $71 increase? Can't see the reason for it... When I first started loading these I'd just size with a 32 WS die, fire-form with 6gr Unique and toilet paper, use a 357 Mag cut in half to touch the neck, trim and load. Most of the ca...

Mine are Redding. MidwayUSA sells them. They form any 30-30, 32WS or 375 to the proper brass with one pass. You do need to trim brass though. 375's seem to give the best performance with the other two being a tie.

Re: Savage 5100 sxs to cut down?

That shotgun is regulated with a barrel wedge that is part of the rib assembly. Cutting it can make your patterns shoot - well - wherever. The full choke can easily be opened so using steel shot is not a problem. There are also options such as bismuth that are non-toxic and will work from full choke...

Re: Choose one rifle for me to carry on extended backpack tr

I'd opt for a carbine sized 357 magnum with a short stock. The Win 94 or 92, or Rossi/Puma with 16" bbl would do it. A TD '92 would be very cool, but not accessible for any kind of defense if apart.

I'm voting for the pistol he already has with a scope or red dot. You can have a weaver base installed or some gunsmiths can cut the Ruger intergral dovetails in it.

I spent one full October in Mission. I was finally able to shoot some Chacalacas, and javelina. I was at a ranch across from the State Veteran's Cemetery. Every time a motorcade went by and the trumpets played I got a lump in my throat. Lots of neat flowers and butterflies. Mission is a nice place!

Re: 44/40 VS 45 colt for Deer

I have little experience with 44/40 on game but have seen some. Most were factory ammo that was 200 grain bullet and around 1140 fps. I imagine it gets more out of a rifle. One handloader had 240 grain bullets going 1300 fps. Now, neither is anything to sneeze at but in my limited observations they ...

I think the 410 with modern ammo is under-rated. I regularly use a 410 on quail, doves and woodcock. I use it on pheasants at my club where they are released periodically (not planted) but not truly wild. My sons shoot a 410 all the time because it is what they can handle. Brandon got a California U...

Boys got a new STI Pistol ...

My two boys like to shoot my STI 45's, but they require earmuffs and an abundance of safety. We recently found an alternative for them to ease the itch to shoot the pistols. This STI DUTY ONE AIR .17 is a full sized model, 29 ounces. It recoils upon firing and has noise not quite as loud as a .22 ri...
