Barnes X Bullet, Nosler Partition & Speer 45-70
Based on a bunch of information on this forum here and there I was lead to believe the all copper bullets are longer than their composite cousins in the same weight. Today some customers were loading "on the spot" to try different 45-70 loads on some cull bison. I was not there but I got a...

Inexpensive Tripod for shooting
I did not want to hijack someone else's thread about the Stoney Point products being great. However, I wanted to let you guy know about this inexpensive option for shooting sticks/tripod For a couple of years we have been purchasing picture stands (aka display stands) at the local arts and crafts st...

I very much like the Stoney Point Magnum sticks like ScottT describes. They are light and portable. For a couple of years we have been purchasing picture stands (aka display stands) at the local arts and crafts store or sometimes on sale at Office Depot. They are foldable tripods with extendable leg...

I messed around with the 3 thing safety too. I agree it is safe and with some forethought I can disengage it quietly, but slowly. I still would not condone moving from place to place with a round in the chamber, however if you're going to this is one of the safest systems to do so. Right about the o...

I agree that the 3 position safety is, well safer. I can see keeping it quiet if you are conscious about it too. However, I don't condone moving around with a round in the chamber, EXCEPT for dangerous game. A rifle like a 375 Ruger is at home in dangerous game country. I don't think that is the rig...

Slightly OT: Three position (Wing) Safeties
Is it just me or are these things horrible contraptions? A few years ago we were filming a bear hunter in a stand. The bear came and when the hunter flipped the safety off the racket sent the bear running for the woods. I had another similar incident where a fallow deer was just feet from a ground ...

Slogan makes a sling they call the "Bow Sling", however I have used it to great success on a number of rifles and shotguns that did not have sling swivels on 'em.

I do not reload, but I shoot with a guy who did what you're looking into. He plucked the plastic tip out of bullets and tried two different filler: accraglas and epoxy. He felt the hard filler would assist expansion and hold and seal better. They worked fine on paper but as far as I know he has yet ...

Depending on your intended use I recommend a 30 or 32mm objective. The low light capability is greatly reduced with a 20mm. If you get great glass, a 28mm is a compromise that will probably get you through. Our bear hunts are in thick woods and the animals are active just before and up to dark. Many...

30-30 report from deer cull -
10 fallow deer were killed today with a 30-30. Tried different ammo. Shots out to 100 yards, none further. 150 gr Remingtons accounted for 5 deer. 4 went down immediately with a behind the front leg shot. 1 into the shoulder shot resulted in the deer running 50 yards and standing to be shot again be...

Wanted: Rifle-good condition .25 caliber w/ Octagon Barrel
I need this gun for a project. Could be .257 Roberts, 25-06, - any .25 caliber including wildcats. Action doesn't matter too much, single shot like Ruger #1, Bolt Action like Browning, etc. Good working condition - don't care about nicks, dings, sights, even a broken stock. Must cycle and function. ...

Guessing, the bear weighed between 225 and 270 pounds live weight. The shot was fired from 15 feet up in a treestand. Upon inspection, the bullet hit under the chin. It broke the neck and shoulder socket, tore out one lung and gashed the heart, went through the liver and stomach, broke the pelvis on...
