Back into Reloading

Post by horsesoldier03 »

I went to the store today and picked up some primers as a lbs of W231. After a long break, I got back into reloading again. A little rusty, but I loaded up 6 and went to fire them before I made up a big batch. Loaded up some .38 +p with CCI 500 and 5.3 grains of W231 with 125 gr LSWC. At 7 yrds I kept all six in a nice 2" circle. Once I got home, my 12 yr old daughter came out to checkout what I was doing. We ended up loading up 100 rds. She enjoyed getting to operate the handle on the press, said she cant wait to go to school and tell everyone what she did! It was a relaxing way to spend the evening. Now I wonder WHY I ever stopped reloading before???

Reloading is my quite time in the basement. Even with the kids. One of them will come down and help from time to time.

As soon as I hit the bench I have one or two little helpers. I've actually decided to make up my own "Cub Scout belt loop" award for reloading - complete with requirements - to give to my son! :D

I'm getting closer to reloading but not quite there. I have stopped buying factory ammo and am applying that money toward equipment. I plan on teaching my little ones about my hobby/sport as well. :D

I enjoy reloading. Loaded about 500 rounds of .45 Colt for a friend today. New R-P brass, CCI 300 primers 6.5grains of RedDot and 255 grain semi-wadcutters.

Took about 2 hours on the Dillon, stopping every primer tube to check powder measure and fill primer tubes, was a great session, only had 3 flipped primers!

Now to get busy reloading the 120 rounds plus shotshell I shot over the weekend, then catch up on my .45 Colt ammo, .45 ACP, & .38 Specials!

No, those were a box of 1,000 I'd purchased something like 20+ years ago and decided that I wanted something lighter for my CAS loads, I'd tell ya who made 'em, but the box was just dust, & have no idea where I got them at this late date. In fact, I'd thought about melting them down on several ocassions, but when my hunting buddy said he'd bought a .45 Colt and wanted some 255grain SWCs, I figured, why not?

I've had my sons shooting since they were very youg. 5 or 6 years old.

It was only natural that they would want to help in reloading as well, although neither of them actually do their own, yet. Seems like diapers, & formula take up their reloading equipment budget. I've suggested maybe they can find some used stuff at garage sales or flea markets. It's a start.

Boy, is that like mine?!? But, as he's still single, his is taken up with dates and flowers and goofin' off! Guess he'll be like my oldest brother, wait till he's 35 or so before he settles down.

Dang Griff, two hours, knew I'd miss that Dillon. Did get the new rockchucker though, just haven't had time to set it up.

That was on my old Dillon, already set up for .45Colt, but... I did have to clean all the muddauber nests outta the dies, etc! :P And, I noticed that the pivot points on the dern thing are gettin' sloppy. Might just have to tear in down and send it back to Dillon for repairs. I'm down to just a couple of hundred loaded rounds, about 500 in the tumbler now, and about 500 more in new bags... Headed out for a coupla more errands, then load some of those in the tumber w/BP, then a few smokeless... then I'll tear it down and send it off. Had the 550 since '88, loaded untold number of .45Colt, .45ACP and .38Special on it, might just be time for a rebuild.
