The 358 win puts meat in the freezer. I picked up a couple of BLRs from my BIL. One in 358 Win and another in 257 Roberts. I worked up a load with 200 gr Hornady spire point interlocks with H335.
I hunt in the woods on a hill side about 60 yards from the end of a field at the end of a small valley. It's a good funnel point for deer wanting to cross up over the ridge. There is a 2 track road from the end of the field past my stand and turns and goes up the dugway road to the top of the ridge to the sugar shack.
On opening day at 4 PM this buck jumps the fence into the field. I am up hill and looking through tree tops at field. The buck is walking away from me along the line fence. I put my scope on him and see that his antlers are out past his ears. I don't shoot into the field because of the trees. My nephew is sitting down at the other end of the field in some pines. I thought I should text him to let him know that one is coming his way. But then the buck turned broad side to me and stood there. I was not aware that he was working a scrape. I watched him for a couple minutes in my scope when I found a hole through the tree tops that was clear, or least I was telling myself that. I didn't know if he was going to exit the field back over the fence. It was around 160 yards. I decide to send it. The performance of the 358 was awesome. It flipped the buck over where I seen his white belly in my scope after the shot. Then he was gone. Now I had to hustle down to field to see where he went. Well he went no where. He was lying right where I shot him. I couldn't see him in the tall grass. I was taking a shoulder shot but it was a little to the right and hit him right where the neck meets the body. The bullet exited the offside so I didn't get to recover it. I usually don't like taking a poke through any obstacles like that, but it all worked out.
Beautiful buck and a rifle ive held and considered buying in 308, but ive never had any real experience with one, or known anyone who has. Quality rifle no doubt!

The first deer rifle I bought was a 30-30 Win 94. The second deer rifle was a BLR in 308 around 1992. You can't go wrong with the BLR. Carries like a 94 but with more power and range. I have shot so many deer with the BLR in 308, I will never part with mine. I have been hunting with some my other guns for a few years now (Marlins and Savage 99s) it felt good to carry a BLR again. If you are a woods hunter and shoot under 300 yards I highly recommend them.

Yes, I love the BLR, i have used one for probably 35 years or more.
Nice!
Got a text from a buddy who asked if I wanted to buy my 358 BLR takedown back. $200 less than I sold it to him.
Should I?
Sure have missed that girl.
