Rossi 92 large loop installation

Post by MINI SSS »

I purchased a larger loop in ss from Stevesgunz along with his video, spring and magazine plunger. They are a must buy if you own a Rossi. His video makes slicking up the 92 as cookbook as possible. Steve is also a great guy to deal with.
Now for the question. Has anyone installed the larger lever by themselves? I get to the point of Installing the lever with the locking bolts, but once installed can't get the bolt to move. Obviously some part of the new lever has to be fitted. I could probably do it but I need some guidance as to where to start. I don't want to call or email Steve yet. The stock lever works just fine after tuning the internals. By the way, this is the slightly oversize lever that will work with gloves in Vermont. John

Welcome aboard! I never tried this myself - had Steve install mine! Good luck - I'm sure someone here will have an answer (probably Steve himself!) :D

John,

I have tinkered with some 92s.

I put a ROSSI large loop lever on my BROWNING 92. ZERO fiting was required.

I have gone through a couple of Rossis, too.

Both 92s have locking bolts that are asymetrical, and each has a top end, and a bottom end. Be certain that the locking bolts are in correctly:

The firing pin is also not symetrical. It may be in the breechbolt usidedown:

Also, as the lever tip rides around the firing pin, and the lever tip pushes the breechbolt (acting like a bearing, too), be certain that the shape of that portion of the lever is free of burrs, and clearing its surrounding pieces:

You can assemble the lever, the bolt, and their pieces outside of the receiver, to see how they move together. The lever tip also retracts the firing pin, to prevent firing out of battery.

...you could also have an extractor retaining pin that has worked sideways, and that will block lever & bolt movement, as you close the lever. If your lever pin and/ or its stop screw (called "ejector stop pin plug screw", in Figure #2, above) is not properly in position, then you will also lock up the lever & breechbolt.

Thanks Hagler. The highlighted photos are exceptional. It appears that the top of the camming is wedging the bolt in place. I'll use the blue magic marker to mark the high spot while trying to work the lever. John
