The streak has ended !
For the last 18 months I’d refrained from buying any guns to keep and had just a few that were cheap enough to turn a dollar on . Well Wednesday I ran across a Parker NH 10 gauge 34” barreled gun on a three frame . This has a chunk knocked out of the toe so I don’t mind putting a pad on it and trying to bend the stock a bit to take some of the drop out of it . I’ve got already a Parker GH 10 gauge 34” three frame that I wouldn’t dare try to bend the stock to lessen the drop but what I have in this one and condition I don’t mind .

The drop at the comb is 1 7/8 and the heel is 3 . Hopefully I can get it up a bit then put a comb pad on it to get more shootable dimensions .

They bend them in the wrist . Sometimes it works very well sometimes not and sometimes they break . The guy that’ll try for me is good at fixing busted stocks etc so no biggie .

They of course use heat and I think water when trying to bend .

Re: The streak has ended !
I used to watch the stocker at Westley Richards bend stocks, what amused me was one piece of equipment was a broom used to prop up the stock in the clamping vice. Apparently it was just the right size and shape
Hot Linseed oil was used on cloth wrapped around the wrist of the stock.

Yup. Heat from a lamp and linseed oil is how I've seen it done. Steam can also work- that's how I bend when I make trout nets.
3" of drop is a lot more than comfortable.

Fascinating. The only time I ever bent wood it was with clear vertical grain Douglas fir for gunwales on a pram. Used towels and boiling water. Kind of a mess.
Will, show us one of your trout nets. It appears you are keeping hidden talents from us.

Still a classic beauty ! If Liz Hurley displays a little "hail damage" on her derriere in a bikini shot - not many of us complain either

Gun arrived in fine fashion and looked far better than I expected . Even the toe chip was smaller than what I thought from the picture . If I go thru with putting a pad on it should clean up quite a bit of the chip and I’m sure Mr. Patton can address what’s left no problem . The drop doesn’t feel as acute as the numbers would have you think a comb riser may take care of that . I’m headed to Pintail Point Saturday for a Virginia Vintagers thing and plan to shoot the gun a dozen or so times with 1 and 1 1/8 ounce loads .

Re: The streak has ended !
I think 86er had something online about stock work and using steam to soften it up for bending. Might have even been a post on here. Way outside of my capabilities.
