POLITICS - DC to lose control of firearms laws
Sorry if this has already been posted but I thought it was an encouraging solution to Mr. Heller's problem ... not withstanding all of the other D.C. residents whose rights are being violated.
House Will Hold Vote to Wrest Gun Control From Washington, D.C., Government
Seems like one way to solve the problem of the resistant D.C. mayor and city council.

That sounds like they are making some headway, I hope those sorry rascals go to jail for what they have done to the people of DC.

The problem is that the Senate won't touch this with a 10' pole. It'll die a quick death.

I would bet there are more gunners in the Senate on both sides of the chamber than are in the House.
And more NRA members.

OI must be sick or on vacation or something for me to have posted this before him. Maybe the plug from his internet router popped out of the socket to his osmotic news collection device that he built and operates from his basement.
Yeah, filed by Democrats ... that's why I think it will get movement in the house at least. As alnitak notes, I hadn't considered if it'll make it through the Senate. Schumer, Boxer, Feinstein, Feingold ... depressing.

Nah. I was busy driving down to Indianapolis to (finally) pick up the Leverguns Kids Ranch Rifle. Wasn't completely offline, but didn't have time to check my spider.Rimfire McNutjob wrote:OI must be sick or on vacation or something for me to have posted this before him. Congress not only oversees, but bankrolls the cesspool that is our nation's capitol.
They MIGHT be looking down the track, realizing that after untold millions more spent, a district court is likely to order the same result anyway. Congress might actually save a few bucks and come up with a LESS DRASTIC release of power than if the courts end up runnin the show (especially as scotus signalled they'd have done more if Heller had asked, but were limited by his filing).

Re: OT - DC to lose control of firearms laws
I both applaud the effort and am somewhat leery of it.
#1 - DC needs to be slapped by Congress.
#2 - Congress tould be "trial balooning" the nationalization of Gun Laws - which could be very good or VERY BAD for gun owners...

I am in great conflict with this. First of all, to do it legally it would require a Constitutional amendment to all it. As it is the 2nd Amd forbids it.
However if it could be done and done in such a way as to not infringe on our rights to keep and bare arms, it might be a good thing. After all this is one country and it would make sense to have the same gun laws every where.
On the other hand, it could also be the precursor to a total gun ban.
Very conflicting.

I guess I'm just not very bright but it looks to me like one or more of the SCOTUS justices could/should slap the DC Mayor and Coun. with contempt charges and jail them.
Thanx, Tim Kelley

Re: OT - DC to lose control of firearms laws
I wonder, has any SC justice ever done such a thing? Seems like the thing to do. Slap 'em all with contempt charges and jail them till they comply with the ruling.Kelley wrote:I guess I'm just not very bright but it looks to me like one or more of the SCOTUS justices could/should slap the DC Mayor and Coun. with contempt charges and jail them.
Works for me.
