New To Me Winchesters

Post by Shrapnel »

While I was escaping the cold weather in Montana, I hit all the collectors shows I could find. I went to Las Vegas in January and Durant, Oklahoma in February and got a couple nice Model 1894’s in 25-35 and 32-40 in takedown configurations. I shot them both and they shoot great. I did even shoot a gopher yesterday with the 32-40…

Nice finds! But don't you think 32-40 a bit overkill for gophers?

Gunny, it's obvious that Shrapnel had No choice as He was being charged. If one of those suckers get in Your Boot then you have problems.
Once again some really nice hardware today Shrapnel!.

Very nice Shrapnel, love the wood on that .32-40! I should probably spread my wings and trade a few of my .30-30s for other chamberings, but can't quite actually do it yet! :o

Some days you simply use the tool in hand! Can you truly say you haven't used a pair of pliers as a hammer? Ever? 'Sides, a smaller round, might have been a miss!

Ok, ok I guess it wasn't overkill as I'm reminded of a groundhog I shot with a 12ga slug, completely unzipped it. Oh and the cotton tail that happened to get skinned from a 17 Remington.

Just beautiful.
For whatever reason, the 32-40 is scarce in my area. I've owned exactly 2, one rifle and one carbine. I kept the rifle but passed the carbine on.
That 25-35 is nicely loaded up with extras.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

Awesome. Congrats on the new mouths to feed. I passed on a .32-40 a while back that had a new mag tube. Eyeing a 25-35 SRC.

Yes sir, them are a pair of awesome Winchesters! Id rather take on a gopher with a 32-40
than a charging 1 ton hacked off Angus bull with a S&W 642

Fine looking 94's Shrapnel. I bet that .25-35 is a hoot to shoot, although I would rather the .32-40 and cast bullets.

I remember the younger elmer keith story where he and his brother used a .25-35 and once had to track a long-range wounded coyote to near the state capitol grounds.

On the other hand, folk would write to the editor a.r. harding about the winchester & savage 25-35 and he would say something like "yes, the .25-35 is perfectly adequate for caribou and bears and other arctic beasts out to 800 yards provided you have open country and decent tracking snow."

Nice, I like both, but especially the 25-35! Someone put on a folding flat rear sight looks like. Makes the Tang use easier. I fixed my Marlin same way.
