Re: I`ve been a little owly
The first one is almost life like at first glance!
Years ago on the last day of buck week towards dusk I decided to give a squall on my predator call as the coyotes were in the area. Not 15 seconds into my dying wabbit impression I got whacked in the back of the head- I was in a tree stand- my hat went flying, literally flying in the talons of an owl!! I never heard it coming or going. It's true that owl wings are silent ! Last time I did that.

Likin' these, Lenn. Do you reckon they'll help keep varmints away?
Re: I`ve been a little owly
That`s quite the story Gunny, what a rush.
Heck Bill they`ll probably sit on it.

Gunny, I've actually been swooped by owls like that three times in my life, though none ever made contact with my head! I suspect that contrary to the Wise Owl stereotype they actually may not be very bright.

In the shade, or in a tree at dusk, that first one could scare someone.

Re: I`ve been a little owly
Thanks guys, i like the first one best too thinking about painting it more of a gray color.
I heard that a person should`t raise a owl from a chick because they will have the tendency to swoop down and land on people and scare them .

That's happened to me 2X in the States while out predator hunting, and it also happened to me over in Bavaria at 3AM in a deer stand overlooking a corn field while with my German buddy was hunting for wild boar. I guess the owl liked the little boar tassel that stuck up from the authentic Loden Green hunting hat he let me wear.

Re: I`ve been a little owly
Years ago, knowing one of our cats was on the garage roof, I heard a couple of owls calling nearby. Thinking that the cat's life was about to take a sudden turn for the worse, I hustled upstairs and brought her in. I looked at the tree from which the owl calls were coming and saw there were about a half dozen smallish owls, maybe 8 or nine inches tall. I presume the cat was about to get the old bum's rush although even with those numbers they would have had a tough time with her. When I approached the tree they all flew about 30 yards to a shorter tree. It was getting pretty dark and I had a flashlight in hand so I shone the light into the eyes of the largest owl of the bunch as I approached it. It was on a branch only six feet off the ground and keeping the light in its eyes I tried to get it onto my finger. I managed to get one of its talons partway onto my finger when it realized something was definitely wrong and they all flew off. That was fun.
