Marlin tang sight
I'm thinking about a Lyman or Marbles tang sight for my T4 Marlin. I notice that the serial # is on the tang of my gun. Will BATFE allow me to cover the serial # with the tang sight?

Re: Marlin tang sight
COVERED is fine, so long as the hole ya drill misses the numbers (it should). OR, don't drill. On one of mine, I cleaned the base and tangw ith alcohol, and CAREFULLY applied a dab of acraglass to the spot where the hole would be, and simply re-installed the tang screw, snugged the sight down gently (make sure it is centered), and let stand overnight. Works fine.

I am totally ignorant. I googled and am still totally ignorant. What is a T-4 Marlin??

[What is a T-4 Marlin??]
I would guess: Triple four, or .444
The new Lyman #2 Tang sight, designated as suitable for the Marlin 336 action, comes with a thin sub-base, which uses a new, longer tang screw (supplied) and a 2nd screw (also supplied) whose hole is designed so as to clear the serial number, and a third hole to accept the front tang sight screw(again, also supplied).
IIRC, Marble's accomplishes the same thing, but I'm not aware of their method - there being different ways to skin a cat, beit were.

Re: Marlin tang sight
sorry for the short hand. T-4 is indeed a Marlin .444.

Re: Marlin tang sight
Dont know as I`d want a tang sight on a sharp recoiling rifle like the .444 Marlin. Mine recoils pretty good even with less than maximum loads with 240 gr bullets. Wear safety glasses!
PS mine has a Williams FP on it.

There's a reason the tang sights were superseded by the receiver sights...Chuck 100 yd wrote:Dont know as I`d want a tang sight on a sharp recoiling rifle like the .444 Marlin. Mine recoils pretty good even with less than maximum loads with 240 gr bullets. Wear safety glasses!![]()
