Bauska barrels in Montana

Post by coyote nose »

Rebuilding an 1873 in 44-40, I have an original 32-20 bbl that the interior is pretty bad but the exterior is good....planned on relining it myself (have done that before) to 44 WCF caliber, but now I am thinking....since the barrel has to be opened up anyway, why not forget lining it but ship it out to someone and have them drill it and recut the rifling for 44 cal. My first thought was Bauska barrels in montana as they made a barrel for my Dads 1892 winchester and did a real nice job. Unfortunately the number I find online (406 752 7706) is out of service. Anybody deal with them lately? Anybody have their number?

Anyone who knows better can feel free to correct me, but I don't believe Les sold his shop. From a memorial to a friend of his, his daughter indicates Les was in a nursing home from at least June 2007. If still alive he is probably in his 90's and unlikely to still be making barrels.
