My work is done. Grasshopper has achieved Enlightenment...

Post by Old Ironsights »

I recently sold my M4gery to a guy at work because (A) he wanted an EBR and (B) I needed to buy a new car.

Last night he went and shot it, along with his SKS and his '94 Ranger.

Today he came to me after last night's range session and said:

"If the 3 rifles I shot last night were laid out on the ground and I had to pick one to keep... it would be the 30-30."

"The M4 is just so accurate as to be no fun, plus it sounds/feels funny." (he was never in the Army, so the whole recoil spring thing sort of creeped him out).

OTOH, his wife and little kids like it, so they get to keep the .22

The AR won't make that annoying BOING! if you roll the recoil spring in Lubriplate.

That still doesn't make it trump the trienta-trienta though.

Sweet. I don't much care for the spring either. Never felt it until the Levergun challenge seasoned my shoulder.

The worst I ever heard the spring is when we did a dog and pony including blank fire. It sounded as if they were shooting those funny little dart guns of our youth. The spring sound was almost louder than the blanks!

While the AR/M16/M4 platform may be pretty versatile, it just doesn't have the style, feel, panache, or savoir faire of a wood stocked lever action. Keep up the good deeds OI.

What's "Lubriplate?"

Is there anything common (i.e. that Ace Hardware would stock) that would do as well?

That stupid 'sproiinnggg noise is so irritating I've even thought about getting one of those "hydraulic" buffers..!

"Lubriplate" white lithium grease at most auto shop or aircraft supplies stores.
It may be annoying to the uninitiated but if you jump in carrying everything you are going to get for a few weeks and every ounce makes a difference, it works just fine.
