I'm looking for about 20-40 pcs of once fired 45-70 Hornady Leverevevolution brass.
I've heard that these are about .060" shorter than regular brass.
So, if you don't reload them because of this and willing to part with them let me know.
Thanks.

Meanc, there must be more to this. Couldn't you just trim "normal" brass to the shorter length you want???

Tutt,
No I'm just looking for unwanted/unneeded brass that I can experiment with.

Re: 45-70 LeverEvolution Brass
I did a detailed study of water capacities with 45-70 cases and the LR was identical in capacity to the Winchester brass, when the W brass was trimmed to the same length as the LR.

Re: 45-70 LeverEvolution Brass
Why is this brass shorter than standard ?
My Son stopped by today to load some rounds, he has all Winchester in his batch. He brought along a box of 20 Hornady LE brass. He was expanding and belling the WW cases. Then he started with the LE brass, no bell on the case. I grabbed my calipers and measured the case, and found the LE to be much shorter than standard length. He will use these for jacketed reloads, and crimp with a Lee FCD.
The only reason I can think of is they are loading too max pressure and they do not want problems in short chambered fire arms. Good factory loads, stuff for brass.
My problem with this short cartridge loaded with a lead bullet is that it will ring the chamber and standard length shells will appear too long. Same as shooting 38 in a rifle chambered for .357. Lead will build up and cause bullet distortion at the throat, causing accuracy to be affected.
My opinion is to forget about the brass, Pitch it , give it away or sell it. Too much good brass out there than to mess with this stuff. Hornady bought the 3-D operation several years, a brass mfg. in Kansas or Nebraska. I always had problems with 3-D brass.

Re: 45-70 LeverEvolution Brass
It's short because the bullet they designed for the LeverEvolution has a longer than standard nose to cannellure length. The only way to keep the COL within SAAMI dimensions is to shorten the case. Simple, isn't it. There isn't any reason to not use it just like any other brass, just keep it segregated from your standard length stuff.Lefty Dude wrote:Why is this brass shorter than standard ?

It's interesting that so many perceive this as an insurmountable problem while they have no issue at all with loading .38 Spl/.357 Magnum with the same equipment. The same situation also exists with .32-20. Remington is standard length of 1.315", while Winchester & Starline are 1.275". I have never seem a post about the problems with this cartidge due to diferent length brass either!
Re: 45-70 LeverEvolution Brass
Cast Bullet Hunter--I'm with 'ya. As long as the brass is kept segregated---no problems. I trim to length all 32 -20 brass to the shorter length. The 38-55 brass I use for a half dozen different rifles is all reformed 30-30--it comes up a bit short but allows me to use larger diameter bullets in chambers that normally would not allow it as the chambering problem with larger diameter bullets is at the case mouth. Same thing with the 32-40---even 45-90's can be loaded with 400 grain bullets in their proper crimp groove by trimming off .100-------Keep the chamber clean and no problems---------SixgunCast Bullet Hunter wrote:
