Savage 99 carbine 30-30
Hey all, I have not been on since the new forum has been active. I need the thoughts of the Savage guys amongst us. I have a shot at a 99 carbine chambered in .30-30. The gun is original with the metal having turned silver. Wood is good with typical handling marks and a chip near butt plate. The original hang tag and manual are included but no box. The down side is the rifle has been drilled and tapped for a scope base. Bummer I know. Any ideas as to value? I understand these are pretty rare. Thanks. 1886.

I'm no expert about 99s and it would be really hard without pictures(at least). Is it a SRC? The scope drilling takes a bunch off, I know it did with the one I got the wife(300sav). As a shooter, a (VERY) rough guestimate would be $450 tops for me. I'm probably a bit low but you can't undo the tapped holes.

Local shop is asking $650 for such a gun that has been restocked. Yes, in .30-30. No, I would not buy it at that price and nobody else has either!

It would be nice to know what model it is as they came in A, B, C, E, F, G, CD, H, EG, and T. A picture or complete discription of metal, stocks, sights, and barrel length would be helpful. I would be hard pressed to hand over $350 for one in that condition.

H model with out saddle ring. Thanks all for your comments. 1886.
Re: Savage 99 carbine 30-30
That's one of the nicer ones, too bad it is D/T. If you really want it, make a reasonable offer, in 2-5 years you should be able to turn a profit anyway because they are not making them anymore. There are two different H models one is an 1899 Featherweight, shotgun type butt, schnoble forearm, and some were take-down. The other is a 99 H carbine with the standard carbine buttplate and a straight forearm with rounded tip. Some had a barrel band and some didn't have the stock pads at the receiver and some had fruitwood stocks. The H model didn't have a saddle ring but, the 1899 F carbine did.
