OT - "Black Chrome"

Post by Griff »

I have a need for nice, shiney bolts (¼-28x.75") and lock nuts that are BLACK! I think I've seen bolts that are "black chrome" but doin' a search yields some wacky results and not exactly what I'm looking for. I'd really like either Torx™ or phillips "panheads", but hexcaps or allen heads would work as well.

The look I have is nice, but... I'd rather not have regular "chrome" bolts that'll rust after a while and... heck, they stand out against the background like spotlights!

I've seen some other "off-the-wall" questions answered here, sooo.... :?:

Do they have to be shiny? You can get bolts that are hardened that are very dark, next to black.

You could look into an anodized aluminium fastners if you could find any.

Griff why don't you buy the bolts you want and then get them black chromed, shouldn't be a problem with that. What year model is your T600 sure looks good wish my 82 model Mack Cruiseliner was that shiny. Keep it safe buddy from downunder.

Hey Griff

Your only answer might be to find "Bolt Caps" like they have here, and see if they can be gotten in Black Chrome.

Black Oxide treated bolts and fasteners coated with POR 15s Glisten PC would be my choice.

Black oxide is a dull finish and doesn't really stand up as well as the black chrome finish.

Someone must have improved the idea...These folks CLAIMthey can make it shiny?? http://www.blackoxideservice.com/

Seems they use a post treatment on them that is an oil based something or other. I found a few references to the folks in automotive applications using it for bumper mounts and such. Most of the other sites I found earlier claimed theirs were shiny, too.

I almost didn't look at them because I knew red oxide paint was dull and flat, and kinda powdery after it dried.
