ear protection for kids.

Post by jnyork »

A discussion on another forum led to ear protection for children while at the range. Children's ears are very much more susceptible to noise damage than adult's, and must be treated with great care. Some shooters are not aware that there are protective ear muffs made just for kids. Here's a link: http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/ea ... ldren.html

For kids I like the soft foamy thing under a pair of muffs sized to fit properly. I love to see kids at the range and shooting, but... ear and eye protection is a 1st priority before any fun can be had.

I like the thinner muffs for kids, they have enough trouble getting 'onto' the gun at first anyway. The foamies under them can help alot too.

+1. No one shoots around me without ears and eyes. I'm starting to have problems hearing in crowds or with background noise. Too much exposure to "safe" guns like .22's and shotguns. You know - they aren't supposed to effect your hearing...

I for one am probably the worst about not using hearing protection for myself around the so called safe guns that wont hurt your ears. However, I do make sure my daughter wears them every time she shoots. I guess I need to start doing better about that myself.
