Still working on the right load for the Glenfield 30. I upped to charge from 18.5 grains of IMR 4198 to 20 and the groups opened up about an inch. Going to back it up to 18.5 or maybe try a different powder. Something to do. I had a large box of 162 gr LRNGC bullets with 8 gr of Unique. They were all over the place. I had a 99 Savage that really shot well with that load. Also too along my early '50s vintage 94. That rifle does NOT like cast bullets of any kind, but Remington 170 gr JSPs are a whole different story. That's about the best I've been able to do with this Winchester. My 1949 Model 94 in .32SPL will cut those groups in half.
Anyway, nice morning at the range with no one around. It was about 42 degrees but the sun was out and no wind.

A deer wouldn`t be around to talk about that accuracy.

My 1950 Win 94 does not have a lead or throat at the front of the chamber. Because of that I can't even chamber a round loaded with cast bullets.
It must be a trait of this era of Win 94s.

Nice! I been doing some 30-30 shootin' this fall, too.
My first 94 carbine was made around 58. It's in really nice shape but I never thought it was an especially good shooter. The notch under the barrel for the front band screw wasn't straight and it would pull the mag tube off center making accuracy suffer. I straightened that out, but the cut for the forearm band screw is just a square notch and the forearm and band won't stay up against the receiver when it recoils. Still have to fix that issue.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Give RE7 or BL-C(2) a try. Both meter much better than the stick IMR powders, which improves accuracy a bunch! My max load with 150 grain flat nose gas-checked cast bullets and RE7 is about half the size of the same velocity using 3031.

There is a fine line between hobby & obsession! AND... I'm over it!!
No I ain't ready, but let's do it anyway!
I remember reading some eons ago that ball powders burn a bit cooler than extruded powders.
If I remember this right it would make them a bit easier on cast bullets. Or so it seams to me.

Reloader 7 has become my go to powder for full power cast loads in the 30-30, 32 special, and 38-55.
