Last week I picked up a new Marlin 1895GS. I have a few 30-30s, but this is my first big bore.About a year ago I bought a 336 stainless 30-30. So when I decided on a 45-70 I knew it had to match. I put the sling and ammo carrier on Wednesday, and the Skinner Sight on tonight (I must say I ordered the Skinner Sight on Thursday about 5PM and it arrived Saturday about 2PM, Great service!). After the sight was installed I removed the open sight and filled the dovetail with a piece of brass stock. There is a few little things left to do, like a fire sight for the front but I need to shoot it first so I can determine what hight to buy and then the recoil pad, thinking about buying the jig and fitting my own.John

Cool! 8)

The brass dovetail filler is a nice touch. Where did you find it?

Twins?

You're gonna have to wrap your guide gun around you car bumper to get it to look like the 30-30.

Or, take the 30-30 in a big bench vise and "fix" it. 8)

Super sweet BTW on both accounts. :D I agree, the brass is a nice touch.

I just got a piece of scrap bar stock brass 3/4" X 1/4" X 12" at the local metal supply store and used a file to fit it and finished it with some 220 grit sand paper. I did both rifles. It took about an hour each and cost $1.50. and I still have about 8" left.John

nice set. Which do you prefer, pistol grip or straight grip? i like the straight grip better and that guide gun just calls to ya. nice job with fitting the brass piece. I just may do that on my 94. thanks.
