We laugh at the 'banana republics' and third-world dictatorships, yet we are already living in a socialist police state. It happens to be a generally benevolent one at the moment, at least for the majority of citizens, but like any other imbalance of power, the temptation of those with the might and money to trample the rest is often too great, and abuses occur. The biggest fault is that we as citizens are so selective about what we feel is a "right" for ourselves vs. others. Too often we scream about our right to own a politically incorrect gun by insisting that we've harmed nobody with it, yet we'll string up the rope to lynch our neighbor if they dare to read a politically incorrect book, look at politically incorrect pictures, or take politically incorrect drugs. I don't think our nation's founders or Constitutional authors were so narrow in their definition of "freedom" - surely many things are stupid, unsafe, and downright sick and immoral to do, but unless or until they actually harm another person (not just 'offend' them), they are not matters for government intervention.
Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

Sieg Heil, baby.

This is the kind of stuff that gives "law enforcement" a bad name.

A badge, a gun and absolutely NO common sense............

Thank you CPS. They are the same in every state and free from prosecution for anything they do.

It sounded like he was Forced to. "where father and son were rushed via ambulance" not 'where father rushed his son'.

From a local paper:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti ... 80375/1081
...Ratte was being interviewed by a Detroit police officer at Children's Hospital, where a physician at the Comerica Park clinic had dispatched Leo -- by ambulance! -- after a cursory exam.
Don Duquette, a U-M law professor who directs the university's Child Advocacy Law Clinic, represented Ratte and his wife. He notes sardonically that the most remarkable thing about the couple's case may be the relative speed with which they were reunited with Leo.

Duquette says the emergency removal powers of CPS, though "well-intentioned" are "out of control and partly responsible for the large numbers of kids in the foster care system," which is almost universally acknowledged to be badly overburdened.

My problem is I can see this kind of stuff happening and me making the evening news across the nation. Someone try to take my children from my wife and me?!? Well, they'd end up thinking a momma grizzly bear with a bad attitude was a tit mouse compared to how I'd behave. It would get ugly - real fast.
