I might be having real memory problems, but maybe ya'll can correct me if I'm out of it.
Did Mossberg back when , offer a lever gun that looked a whole lot like a Marlin?
That came to me again when with the Mossberg made known of the of their new 464 lever .30.30 .....
The olders Mosberg leverguns were usually called a "472", I believe. I believe they were all carbines, with round, 20" barrels, and, often, pistol-grip stocks. "473" is a variation on the 472, and there was one that had a "6" in the mix of model numbers. Mossberg sold a "Roy Rogers" edition, complete with Roy's & Trigger's signatures!
Now, they also sold a .22LR levergun, the "Palomino". It was NOT the same as the 472-series.

I've got an OLD Mossberg 472 30/30 I picked up from a pawn shop for $125.00 in decent shape. As mention it has a lever/trigger like a BLR, and a bolt like a 336, and the butt stock is attached with a single long bolt like a shotgun butt so no upper/lower tangs. It also has a hammer block safety lever on left side of receiver. It's a tad funky but so is the rest of the rifle design so kind of cool in it's own way. It's the only levergun I own that's scoped but that's because the scope mount hole plugs were missing, and I had an extra 336 scope base and ols 4x scope handy to plug up the holes.
Yes , I have one also, mine has a crescent butt.
I can work the lever from my shoulder better than any other centerfire I have ever shot. I have never figured out why.
Mossberg had an old levergun in a display case at their booth at the NRA show and meetings in Louisville this weekend. Model 7 IIRC. Cool looking little levergun!
In fact, there were a lot of leverguns at the show!!!
