HUMOR - An Amish Farmer

An Amish farmer, walking through his field, notices a man kneeling down and drinking from his farm pond.

The Amish farmer shouts:

'Nein, nein!! Trink das wasser nicht. Die kuhen haben dahin gesheissen.' (Which means: 'Don't drink the water, the pigs have crapped in it.')

The kneeling man shouts back:

'Infidel dog, I am a Muslim, I don't understand you. I speak only Arabic and English. If you can't speak in the sacred tongue of Islam, speak in English.'

The Amish farmer says: 'Ach! Use both hands, you'll get more.'

Das ist nicht korrekt.

Kuhe are "cows"

Schweine are pigs.

Trink das wasser nicht. Die Schweine haben in es geschissen.

One of my favorite scenes in a movie is where Gene Wilder, as an Orthodox Polish Rabbi lost in 1850s Amish country after being robbed tries to speak Yiddish to the German speaking farmers who are dressed just like him...

Hilarity ensues.

My wife once spoke dutch to a gentleman of the German Baptist persuasion over in Teton National Park last summer, I don't know which one of them was more embarrased. I found the whole thing rather funny because I told her to go talk to the guy.

I was always under the impression that the Amish actually speak German. They call them the Pennsylvania Dutch because the English there couldn't tell the difference between Dutch and Deutsch.

Someone set me straight please.
